As a retired nurse, Marie Soczynski, TOPS OL 0001, brings nutrition knowledge to her TOPS chapter and her community. Known for her encouraging words, she lifts up others and leads by example with her careful eating habits and consistent exercise routine.

As a member of TOPS Club for 20 years, Marie has served in many TOPS roles. After joining in 2005, she started as a Weight Recorder for her chapter in Arizona and later served as a Facilitator for 8 years, increasing chapter membership from 20 to 70! Now, Marie serves as a Delegate.

“I know that if I hadn't joined TOPS, I would have so many other health issues as far as joint, back and mobility,” said Marie. “I’m really grateful that I joined TOPS, and that’s why I’m continuing to be active.”

Marie never hesitates to lend a helping hand and encourages others to join in activities, events and celebrations. Living in a senior living facility in Minnesota, she often steps in as a substitute exercise instructor. She also orchestrates building gardening projects, decorates for the holidays, reads to preschoolers who attend the on-site pre-K and enjoys bird watching with friends. Recently, Marie and her husband served as the building’s winter carnival queen and king.

“Marie is a humble hero,” said Nancy Christensen. “She is a friend and encourager to many people. After being her online TOPS buddy for [a couple of] years now, I keep learning of her many contributions to her community and beyond. She absolutely is an unsung hero.”
